DEFINITION OF RAGGING

  • “ Any disorderly conduct whether by words spoken or written or by an act which has the effect of teasing, treating or handling with rudeness on any other student, indulging in rowdy or undisciplined activities which causes or is likely to cause annoyance, hardship or psychological harm or to raise fear or apprehension thereof in a fresher or a junior student or asking the students to do any act or perform something which such student will not in the ordinary course and which has the effect of causing or generating a sense of shame or embarrassment so as to adversely affect the physique or psyche of a fresher or a junior student”.

WHAT CONSTITUTES RAGGING?

  • Any conduct by words spoken or written or an act which has the effect of teasing.

  • Rowdy/undisciplined activities, which cause or are likely to cause annoyance, hardship, physical abuses.

  • Financial extortion or act of forceful expenditure.

  • Threading or handling with rudeness to a fresher or any other student. Forcing a student to do an act, which generates sense of shame, torment or physical/psychological harm or fear or apprehension in any student.

  • Any act which prevents/disturbs/disrupts regular academic activities assignment to an embarrassment affecting his/her physique or psyche.

  • Any act or abuse by spoken words, emails, post, public insults which would also include deriving perverted pleasure, vicarious or sadistic thrill from actively participating in it.

  • Any act affecting mental health and self-confidence of student with or without any intent discomfiture to fresher or any other student. To derive a sadistic pleasure showing off power, authority or superiority.

OBJECTIVES:

Anti-Ragging Policy

  • Ragging is strictly banned in the premises of K L E Society’s Arts and Commerce College, Gadag.

  • To Curb the Menace of Ragging in K L E Society’s Arts and Commerce College, Gadag.

  • If anybody found indulging in such activities, strict action will be taken.

  • To root out ragging in all its forms from the institution, by prohibiting it by law and indulging into it, the Committee will follow the provisions of the Regulations of Supreme Court and out suitable punishments will be given on those found guilty.

CONSTITUTION OF ANTI-RAGGING COMMITTEE

  • An anti-ragging committee will be constituted by the head of the institute comprising:
    a) Chairman
    b) Members (Minimum 4 members from Faculty) including the warden of the Hostel.
    c) One Representative from Law back ground
    d) Parent Representatives - 1 and
    e) Students Representatives- 2.

  • The committee will monitor carefully any ragging incidences in the college premises, canteen, mess area and hostels through frequent raids.

  • The committee will meet & conduct minimum of two meetings annually.

  • The committee shall re-constitute every two years.

FUNCTIONS OF THE ANTI-RAGGING COMMITTEE

  • To monitor an undertake the declaration in the prescribed format from the candidate concerned on anti- ragging at the time of admission.

  • To address the students and parents by the head of the institutions on anti-ragging committee.

  • To arrange to send letters to parents, guardians of the students at the end of the academic year for creation of awareness.

  • To suggest measures to tighten the security.

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF MEMBERS:

  • The faculty members can take the help of the member students as and when required and can also involve them in different activities relating to Anti-Ragging Committee.

  • To keep an alert eye to avoid any of ragging incidence.

  • Walk around the campus to ensure that there is no such activity taking place.

  • Keep reminding students about the severe actions which could be taken against them if they are found involved or indulged in ragging.

  • Make students aware of their respective Institution about the rules and regulations of Anti-Ragging.

  • Informing students about the affidavit and encourage students to fill and submit it in time.

  • Taking ownership in making the environment of the campus absolutely Free from Ragging.

  • Identify and keep in close observation of the sensitive places of the institute where such incidents can take place.

  • For each ragging incident, the member person is supposed to prepare and submit a complete report including their remarks about the incident for further action to the Head of Anti- Ragging Committee.

  • If any such incident is reported to member or member himself/herself comes across such incidents, he/she has to immediately try to get connected telephonically/face to face to the group of students found/reported to indulge in ragging.

  • The member person will immediately investigate about such incident and will take in written form from the doer and the culprit.

  • The member person will also try to collect the information Orally and Written, from the witnesses and will put remarks of the witness in the report.

  • Simultaneously, the member person will immediately bring to the notice of Head of Anti- Ragging Committee about such happening as first information and later on will submit an exhaustive report to the Heads for further process and action.

  • Since the gravity of the incident will be decided by the report which will get reflected into the decision of the degree of punishment for the defaulter, it is expected from the each member person that they make/develop the report with utmost sincerity and care.

  • Each such report submitted to the Head of Anti-Ragging Committee will be further investigated by their own resources in order to reach to a right judgment & appropriate decision.

  • Each nominated member of the committee is expected to abide by the SOP.

PROTOCOL TO BE FOLLOWED IN CASE OF INCIDENCE OF RAGGING

  • A Formal complaint will be filed with the Anti-ragging committee/Chairman/ member.

  • Authenticity of the case will be examined by the members deputed by the chairman.

  • After a formal enquiry, the report will be forwarded to the Head of the Institution, the Chairman.

  • Appropriate penalty actions will be recommended to the Head of the Institution as per law.

PUNISHMENTS:

AT THE INSTITUTION LEVEL

Depending upon the nature and gravity of the offence as established by the Anti- Ragging Committee of the institution, the possible punishments for those found guilty of ragging at the institution level shall be any one or any combination of the following:

  • Cancellation of admission.

  • Suspension from attending classes.

  • Debarring from appearing in any test / examination or other evaluation process.

  • Withholding results.

  • Debarring from representing the institution in any regional, national or international meet, tournament, youth festival, etc.

  • Suspension/ expulsion from the hostel.

  • Rustication from the institution for period ranging from 1 to 4 semesters.

  • Expulsion from the institution and consequent debarring from admission to any other institution.

  • Fine of Rupees 25,000/-

  • Collective punishment: When the persons committing or abetting the crime of ragging are not identified, the institution shall resort to collective punishment as a deterrent to ensure community pressure on the potential raggers.

Grievance Redressal Cell- “Spandana”

  • Spandana, the Grievance Redressal Cell attempts to address genuine problems and complaints of students whatever be the nature of the problem. Objective:
    The objective of the Grievance Cell is to develop a responsive and accountable attitude among all the stakeholders in order to maintain a harmonious educational atmosphere in the institute.
    A Grievance Cell should be constituted for the redressal of the problems reported by the Students of the College with the following objectives:

  • Upholding the dignity of the College by ensuring strife free atmosphere in the College through promoting cordial Student-Student relationship and Student-teacher relationship etc.

  • Encouraging the Students to express their grievances / problems freely and frankly, without any fear of being victimized.

  • Suggestion / complaint Box is installed at different places in which the Students, who want to remain anonymous, put in writing their grievances and their suggestions for improving the Academics / Administration in the College.

  • Advising Students of the College to respect the right and dignity of one another and show utmost restraint and patience whenever any occasion of rift arises.

  • Advising All the Students to refrain from inciting Students against other Students, teachers and College administration

  • Advising all staffs to be affectionate to the Students and not behave in a vindictive manner towards any of them for any reason.

Functions

  • The cases will be attended promptly on receipt of written grievances from the students

  • The cell formally will review all cases and will act accordingly as per the Management policy

  • The cell will give report to the authority about the cases attended to and the number of pending cases, if any, which require direction and guidance from the higher authorities.

Procedure for lodging complaint:

  • The students may feel free to put up a grievance in writing and drop it in boxes

  • The Grievance Cell will act upon those cases which have been forwarded along with the necessary documents.

  • The Grievance Cell will assure that the grievance has been properly solved in a stipulated time limit provided by the cell.

WOMEN EMPOWERMENT CELL - “SADHANA”

  • KLE Society’s Arts and Commerce College, Gadag, Established a Women Empowerment Cell, “SADHANA” in 2004 to empower women and help them in all walks of life. It has been constituted to empower and safeguard the rights of female members; faculty staff and students of College. The “SADHANA” works to promote gender sensitivity in the college and conduct diverse programmes to educate, sensitize both male and female members and produce harmonious atmosphere on the campus. It works for the welfare of the students and faculty towards preparing them in to competent professionals to take up greater challenges in the academic sphere.

OBJECTIVES OF SADHANA

  • A Women Empowerment committee is constituted at the Institution level with the objectives as follows

  • Identification of strong leader ship and change makers and building the capacity of women

  • To promote a culture of respect and equality for female gender

  • To conduct seminar, workshop to impart knowledge of opportunities and tools available and train the women

  • To inculcate entrepreneurial attitude among young girls, at the earliest so that they can be “job givers” rather than “job takers”

  • To make women understand that Empowered and educated women are less likely to fall prey to sexual abuse, workplace harassment, domestic abuse many more

  • To show that the Empowered women can have happier families

  • To imbibe the idea that child marriage, dowry killings, discrimination, female feticide, etc., and other harmful acts can be stopped by women empowerment

PLACEMENT CELL

  • The career Guidance and Placement cell has been set up in the college for the benefit of the students. Primary objective of the cell is to provide the much needed life skills to students and help them to find job placements. The Cell’s activities are initiated by the teaching faculty of different departments.

    The college has integrated the Career Guidance with the Placement cell. The Cell offers guidance to students regarding different path ways in higher education and other career opportunities apart from placement support.

OBJECTIVES OF PlACEMENT CELL

  • To invite companies/organizations for campus interviews and provide them necessary facilities foe conducting written test, Group Discussion, Technical and HR interview etc.

  • To arrange Industrial Visit and Training for final year and pre-final year students.

  • To organize various types and level of training programs like mock interviews, Group discussion, experience sharing by eminent personalities, business communication skills.

  • To display various job advertisement coming in employment news, opportunities and career columns in leading news papers.

  • Students are guided by an efficient team of counselors who help students in choosing their line of work from a plethora of choices. Care is taken to ensure students are placed in fields where they have an aptitude to excel, keeping in view their personal traits and qualities. All students are welcome for career guidance and counseling.
